Wrestling Shows im freien mit schlechtem Wetter?

Wir hatten das Thema vor einigen Tagen im Wrestlemania 24 Thread bereits, aber ich denke man koennte super darueber in einem eigenen Thread sprechen. Frueher waren Wrestling Shows im freien keine Selltenheit, Independent findet man sie noch, aber die meisten Promoter (gerade WWE) haben abstand genommen im freien regelmaessig (!) Shows abzuhalten. Das liegt natuerlich vorallem auch daran das solche Shows unberechenbar sind, aufgrund des Wetters. Welche Wrestling Shows im freien fallen euch ein mit schlechtem Wetter, hier mal ein paar von mir.

Ich kann mich an eine WCW Show 1992 in Milwaukee erinnern. Die Show fand beim Milwaukee Mile Race Track statt. Und es hat geregnet ohne ende, an das Match der Show an das ich mich erinnern kann ist Sting vs Jake Roberts. Dann die Japan Show die ich schon im WM 24 Thread erwaehnt habe. Die Show fand mitten in einem Typhoon statt. Der Wind war so stark das man sich an den Ringseilen festhalten musste. Aber der Promoter wollte die Show auf keinenfall absagen, also ging es weiter. Ein paar Japaner stiegen sogar auf das Seil, waehrend der Referee sich am Seil festhielt.

Dann am 28 August 1986 hat WWF im Exhibition Stadium in Toronto, Ontario eine Show gehabt. 74,000 Zuschauer kamen, mit Hulk Hogan vs Paul Orndorff im Main Event. Es hat zwar nicht geregnet, dafuer war es jedoch extrem kalt mit starkem Wind. Dann 1972 hielt die WWWF eine Shea Stadium Show ab, mit Pedro Morales vs Bruno Sammartino um den WWWF Championtitle Auch hier hat es nicht stark geregnet, aber es war so kalt das am ende nur 22,000 Zuschauer kamen.

Dann eine WWF Show 1985 in Puerto Rico war sehr verregnet. Das Hulk Hogan vs Big John Studd Match ist auf der Hulk Hogan DVD drauf. Ich glaube Ernie Ladd und Gorilla Monsoon haben das Match kommentiert, das als “The Puerto Rican Downpour“ in die Geschichte einging. Sehr witzig, vorallem weil in Puerto Rico die Fans 20 Meter vom Ring entfernt sassen, und Soldaten als Security eingesetzt wurde. Hier mal die Card der Show.

Und dann habe ich das Poster fuer eine Show auf Hawaii 1985, man beachte mal wieviele Matches und Wrestler bei der Show waren. Auch sehr witzig das Alexis Smirnoff mit einem Bild von Ivan Koloff beworben wurde.

Ich habe folgende grandiose Geschichte von Les Thatcher gefunden:

One of the biggest houses that we drew there (Knoxville), which was the Summer of 69, outside at the Amphitheater in Chilhowee Park, and it was also a show that had John Cazana had his way, would have been cancelled, initially. John never used, although Ron Fuller (did), which I don?t know why John never did this, but the indoor building which we used in the Winter there, was a stone?s throw from the Amphitheater, and John never decided to go, you know, using the building as a backup---which when Southeastern was there from, what, ?74 through ?79, that was something we ALWAYS did, during the Summer---but anyway, it was raining. And John just came in the dressing room and, ?Wow, you know, we worked this big angle, and well, you know, looks like we might have to cancel it.?

And Whitey (Caldwell) was---the windows in the dressing room in the Amphitheater were very high, so people could not see in, and of course you couldn?t see out either---and Whitey had been up on a table looking out, he heard John, he said, ?John, maybe you want to get up here and take a look before you make that decision.? And of course none of us knew what he was talking about at the time, but if you got up on the table, there were three ticket booths for the outdoor Amphitheater, and the wild thing was when we all got up there and took a look outside, there was a line around, the boxing arena, the Golden Gloves Arena was right across from it, and there was three lines all the way around, stretched AROUND the Golden Gloves Arena, at each ticket window, IN the rain, waiting to get in the show.

So the show was NOT cancelled. But the thing of the whole thing is, that, you know, until the main event?s in the ring, if you have to stop the card before the main event, there IS a chance that you may have to refund money. So, they didn?t put us on FIRST, but I think---well, probably there were only four matches at the time, anyway, on the show, and so we went on in the middle of the card just to be sure it was on, but by that time it was raining a little bit harder, and the rain like was swingin? back and forth over our heads and you couldn?t look your opponent straight in the eye, I mean because of the way the rain was slashin? down at an angle, it would blind you, and you had to kinda drop your head and look outta the corner of your eye so you could actually see what was going on. And I for one, I don?t know if anybody else in the match did or not, but I experienced the outdoor thing with rain in the past myself, and the soles of my wrestling shoes would be like, well, the example would be like drag racing slicks, on wet pavement. There IS no traction. So I went there, I took my shoes off and went out there and worked barefoot for that.
