Greetings from the frozen tundra of Nashville, TN. While those of us brought up in Minnesota would consider this snowfall child's play, it has crippled this city.
Another solid program this past Wednesday night, continuing a strong streak of great shows from NWA TNA. If things go as planned, this upcoming week looks as strong as ever.
Jason Cross suffered a crushed knuckle and a broken bone in his hand his match with David Young this past Wednesday night. Cross is expected to be in a cast for four weeks. He will have his spot waiting for him upon his return, as TNA management is still very high on the X-Divisioner.
Jeff Jarrett had a great time during his recent tour of Puerto Rico. Jarrett has wrestled on the island several times and may be returning soon. On his flight back to the mainland, the world champ was seated next to Todd Bridges (Willis from TV's Diff'rent Strokes). The two joked about the time Jarrett el kabonged Gary Coleman with the guitar, only to discover little Arnold had put a hat on stuffed with toilet paper to soften the blow.
Early reports from DirecTV indicate a 22% increase in buys from 12/18 to 1/8. While we still have a ways to go, increases are being reported across the board.
This Wednesday will mark our live debut in the country of Australia, as we are the only PPV wrestling in the country. I will be opening up the show from the Sydney Harbour, and you will see plenty of things welcoming our new viewers down under to the TNA family.
All three titles will be defended this week, as Vince Russo won the right to pick the opponents. Sonny Siaki will most likely have an easy night as X-Division Champ, however, there are some very interesting rumblings about who Jeff Jarrett's opponent will be as Russo picks his opponent for Jeff Jarrett.
TNA has certainly become a "surprise haven" as of late, with Larry Z and Nikita Koloff showing up last week. Look for that trend to continue.
Once again, Roddy Piper will be given an open forum to discuss whatever he pleases this Wednesday night. Anyone else a little nervous about this?
TNA fansites are popping up all over the place. Check out http://www.totalnonstop.com, http://www.1nwatna.com., http://www.nwatnazone.com., and nwatnalive.com., just to name a few.
I found Sid's comments on your's truly a little surprising. Not only do I have no clue what he is talking about in regards to me "bringing a valet to a recent Memphis show," unless he is talking about Don West, who may be an attractive man in some respects, but certainly not valet material. Oh well - I have absolutely no hard feelings towards Sid. In fact, I feel very sorry for him. He has been through a lot in the last two years.
The dreaded "Heel Section" of fans who have taken over the area to the left of the ramp have even launched their own website, http://www.heelsection.com. Also on my list of amusing TNA related websites is a sick bastard who calls himself "The Bro" at http://tnattitude.tripod.com - this man's creations are a good arguement on why Photoshop should be outlawed.
The TNA PPV for this week will feature an X-Division 6-man matchup.
Surprised to see Dave Meltzer not include Jerry Lynn as one of his top nominees for 2002 wrestler of the year. Normally, I think very highly of his choices, but this year he lost me on that one.
TNA Xplosion will be expanding into several major markets very soon, as mentioned by Mike Tenay this past week. This will be especially good news for fans in New York City, Los Angeles, and Tallahassee, Fl. This week's show features exclusive interviews with Triple X, AJ Styles, Sonny Siaki, and more. Matches this week also include Jorge Estrada, David Young, April Hunter, and the 1/4 ton man known as Iceberg. More on this next week.
The top selling T-shirt at the TNA Asylum is the S. E.X shirt. You can order your own now at http://www.nwatna.com.
Had a chance to get together with Suzanne Somers last week in Toronto, who I've known for years from back in my radio days. Yes, Ol' JB was once a decorated "syndicated radio personality" alongside midwest radio legend Ruth Koscielak, and worked with some real characters. My favorite outing was the time I had a romantic candlelight dinner with Dawn Wells (TV's Mary Ann from Gilligan's Island), who was my first crush as a child. I don't want to give details, but let's just say not only did we have dinner ... but breakfast as well.
From Percy Pringle's latest column...
When I stepped into the ring to face Satan himself on January 15th, I had a plan. I thought that I would beat Russo at his own game. I figured that I could infiltrate his legion, and destroy it from the inside. I must admit that I failed. Russo saw through my plan, and I ended up lying in a pool of my own blood. I am not willing to run away into the night. I am prepared to stand my ground and fight for the business that I love. I will regroup, and I will see traditional professional wrestling dominate Russos sick idea of S. E.X , or my name is not Percival Pringle III. You can check out the rest of this interesting read on http://www.nwatna.com
Rumor has it that you may see midwest sensation Austin Aries debut in the X-Division this week.
AJ Styles will face Larry Zbsyzko in what should be an interesting contest this week.
Sunday night will be the big Tennessee/Oakland showdown. It has been an amazing season. I will be glued to the TV Sunday night! Go Titans!
That is all for this week! See ya back on PPV this Wednesday night!
