Zitat:It’s was February 26, 2007 at “FYF: NYC” when Christopher Daniels and Austin Aries stepped inside a ROH ring against one another, that evening being a match for the ROH World Tag Team Titles with Matt Sydal at Daniels’ side and Roderick Strong at Aries’. One would have to go back to “Irresistible Forces” in October of 2006 to see their last singles encounter that took place at a Ring of Honor event.
Well ROH officials have now set a date for these two ROH icons first match in nearly four years, and what better date than 9/11/10 at “Glory by Honor IX” in the heart of New York City and live on iPPV with GoFightLive! New York City was the last place Daniels and Aries locked horns inside an ROH ring so there’s a sort of appropriateness to their meeting taking place in the Manhattan Center.
Both competitors have gone through a great deal in their careers since 2007. They’ve had some similar experiences outside of ROH, but both find themselves in very different places in 2010. Christopher Daniels has a mission to prove himself the “best wrestler in the world” and that means capturing the ROH World Title. Austin Aries has a mission to prove himself “the best manager in the world”, but still must contend with in-ring competition while trying to lead The All Night Express to the promised land of tag team glory.
A victory over the only 2-time ROH World Champion will add momentum to The Fallen Angel’s mission as he pursues a belt that has eluded him since 2002, but a loss in NYC can also grind it to a halt. For “A Double”, winning or losing in this instance is more a case of ego. He has no great cause at the moment, at least not one for himself, but being able to brag about beating Chris Daniels, redeeming a series of losses from years past, that ego fodder is all the motivation Austin Aries needs.
“A Double and Christopher Daniels in New York City?” offered Aries, “ROH obviously knows where its money is made doesn’t it? It’s putting ‘Mr. It’ in action. It’s the face of the MV3 on PPV. It’s Austin Aries knocking Chris Daniels off his perch. I know what you want Chris, just like I know you can’t get it. You’ve been trying to be the ROH champ for eight years while I’ve done that twice; the only one to do it twice as a matter of fact. So allow me to tell you how this is going to go in New York. I win, you lose, then myself and the A…N…X go live it up with a night on the town.”
“Austin Aries and Christopher Daniels.” stated Daniels, “Two men who have set the standard for competition here in Ring of Honor during our tenures with this company. I have been here as much as I was allowed since day one. You took up the torch at a time when I was unable to carry it, we have battled over the tag titles in past, and I think it’s safe to say that we know one another quite well Austin. But what I see now is a man I don’t recognize. With two ROH World titles under your belt in addition to your reign as a tag champion, you think you have nothing left to prove here. Well you are quite accomplished Austin, you have it all wrong. There is always something to prove Austin, to your self if no one else. Now as fate would have it, in New York City, it’s time for you to prove it to me.”
