Zitat:"Over the last few weeks, I know there's been a lot of confusion over just who 'Michael McGillicutty' really is. It's no secret that my grandfather was Larry 'The Axe' Hennig, my father was WWE Hall-of-Famer 'Mr. Perfect' Curt Hennig, and that I plan on carrying on the 'Hennig' wrestling legacy. So who exactly is 'Michael McGillicutty'? Most people know me as 'Joe Hennig', that was my name growing up, that's the name I used in school, it's the name I used when I started wrestling.
Ever since I decided to use the name 'Michael McGillicutty' a few weeks ago, I've been getting phone-calls from friends, people I've known ten, fifteen, twenty years, asking why I would use that name. And it's been tough, it's been really emotional, having to relate the same explanation over and over.
The truth is, while everybody is asking why Joe Hennig would become 'Michael McGillicutty', it's actually the other way around. I was born Michael Joseph McGillicutty, on October first, 1979, in Champlin, Minnesota, to Nick and Maria McGillicutty. Without going into a lot of detail, Nick and Maria were not exactly "fit" parents. When I was about three years old, my parents were arrested, and, without any other "qualified candidates" to be guardians, I was on my way to foster care. However, there was a couple that lived about two blocks away, that had heard about what was going on, and, for whatever reason, offered to take me in. That couple was Curt and Leonice Hennig.
As far as I know, the Hennigs didn't really know the McGillicuttys, they weren't friends or anything, they were just people that had heard about a young child in their town that was having a lot of problems, and wanted to help. They took me in and treated me as their own. And let me tell you, 'Mr. Perfect' wasn't just a catchy nick-name, Curt was the greatest father I could have possibly asked for, and Leonice was every bit as perfect as a mother.
When I was told that I made the cut to be on 'NXT', though, I did a lot of soul-searching. This was my big break, and I decided that I needed to do this as myself. I'm proud to be a 'Hennig', even if not by blood, but I realized that I could carry on the family name while still being true to myself - if Tyson Kidd, David Smith, and Natalya can carry-on the 'Hart' legacy, then Michael McGillicutty can carry-on the 'Hennig' legacy.
Thank you so much for all of your support, and Dad, I'm gonna make you proud!
Oh, and Nick... Maria... I hope you realize what you gave up."
Noch schlimmer, wenn ihr mich fragt....
Es ist einfach wieder ein bescheuerter Gimmick Name für einen Neuling, der eigentlich als Joe Hennig auftreten sollte....
