Ohio Valley Wrestling, the only office developmental territory for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), will hold its second annual tryout camp March 21-26, 2004. Its purpose is finding new wrestling talent for OVW, and potentially, the WWE. Attendance will be limited to 50 applicants whose applications are accepted by OVW, and the objective is to find those with the talent, look and drive necessary to succeed in professional wrestling. Those individuals will be invited to join OVW's training program, where they can learn alongside WWE developmental talent and be seen by WWE agents on a regular basis.
The 2003 tryout camp was seen as a success by OVW officials. Of the 50 participants, 11 were invited to continue training in OVW- of those, New Jersey's Tank Toland has already become an OVW Tag Team Champion and wrestled on OVW's live events, Canada's Standing Thunder has become a successful OVW main eventer, and Kentucky's Jillian Hall is the most popular of the OVW's Women's Division, recently facing WWE Women's Champion, Molly Holly on an OVW television bout. All three are under consideration for WWE developmental contracts.
OVW's "Homegrown" talent had a great year also. OVW Owner Danny Davis' protégé, Nick Dinsmore remained the best technical wrestler in the WWE developmental program, competed on live events, and formed a great team with Chris Benoit at an OVW event. Nick's protégé, Thrillseeker Johnny Jeter, wrestled Chris Jericho at an OVW event and was awarded a WWE developmental contract, barely 12 months after his first lesson in OVW.
Doug Basham and The Damaja (Danny Basham), two OVW originals, were brought to the WWE fulltime roster, and gained the WWE Tag Team Championship on Smackdown. OVW original, Rob Conway joined La Resistance. The list of WWE talent that was trained in OVW is remarkable: Brock Lesnar, John Cena, Mark Jindrak, Garrison Cade, Victoria, Jazz, Gail Kim, Randy Orton, Rodney Mack, Mark Henry, Rico, Jackie Gayda, Rene Dupree, Sylvain Grenier, Rob Conway, Batista, John Heidenrech, Matt Morgan, Chris Nowinski, Orlando Jordan, Nidia, Shaniqua, The Basham Brothers, Charlie Haas, Shelton Benjamin, and Sean O'Haire. If you think your name should be on that list, the 2004 OVW Tryout Camp is the place to prove it!
Attendees will be interviewed, evaluated and run through drills by OVW Head Instructor Danny Davis, OVW Matchmaker Jim Cornette, OVW Trainer Rip Rogers, WWE Talent Scout Dr. Tom Pritchard, and the best WWE developmental talent.
For those who have never had formal training, the focus will be on evaluating their conditioning, appearance, attitude and potential to learn. Those who are judged to "have what it takes" will be invited to join OVW's training program.
For current pro wrestlers on the independent level, this is an opportunity to learn the style you will need to make it to the major leagues. Those with pro experience will receive the above evaluations; plus will wrestle tryout matches for the officials with top OVW talent. Again, the individuals with the best potential for success will be invited to join the OVW program.
Cost of enrollment in the 2004 camp is $995.00. For this fee, those accepted will attend the daily camp from Sunday, March 21 to Friday, March 26 - and they will be provided with transportation to and from the daily workouts.
Applicants are responsible for their own transportation to and from Louisville, Kentucky for the camp, and their individual meals and expenses while here.
