NJPW G-1 Climax 2005 Teilnehmer/Bloecke/Lineups

Zwischen dem 6 und dem 14 August wird NJPW ihren alljaehrlichen G-1 Climax abhalten um den staerksten Heavyweight Wrestler bei NJPW zubestimmen. Der G-1 Climax denn NJPW seit 1991 abhaelt entwickelte sich seither zu dem momentan Prestigetraechtigsten Tournament im Pro Wrestling. Von den 16 Teilnehmern hat NJPW 15 bestaetigt, davon sind 5 Wrestler ehemalige G-1 Climax Sieger. Block A steht ja hier ganz klar im Zeichen 3rd und 4th Generation, waehrend man in Block B ueberwiegend 5th Generation Wrestler findet.

In Block A findet man nicht nur den G-1 Climax Sieger der letzten zwei Jahre und amtierender IWGP Heavyweight Champion Hiroyoshi Tenzan sondern auch den Rekord G-1 Climax Sieger Masahiro Chono. Ausserdem wird “The Babyfaced Assassin“ Josh Barnett nach ueber einem Jahr wieder fuer NJPW antretten, sein letztes Match bestritt er im May 2004 bei Nexess gegen Ken Shamrock. Barnett hatte sich eine schwere Schulterverletzung bei Pride FC 28-High Octane im October 2004 gegen Mirko CroCop zugezogen und musste Operiert werden. Tatsumi Fujinami, Yuji Nagata, Osamu Nishimura, Kendo Ka Shin und Minoru Suzuki komplettieren Block A.

In Block B findet man mit Manabu Nakanishi “nur“ einen ehemaligen G-1 Climax Sieger. Jedoch duerfte die Brisanz darin liegen das man zwei 5th Generation Stars und die amtierenden IWGP Tag Team Champions im selben Block hat, naemlich Hiroshi Tanahashi und Shinsuke Nakamura. Dies bedeutet auch das es zwischen Tanahashi und Nakamura zum zweiten Singles Match ihrer Karriere kommt, nach ihrem Match bei Wrestling World 2005 anfang des Jahres. Ausserdem in Block B sind noch Togi Makabe, Yutaka Yoshie, Toru Yano und Blue Wolf dabei. Der 8 Spot in Block B ist nocht nicht bekannt.

Also irgendwie gefallen mir bisher die Blocks ziemlich gut. Finde die Generation Trennung hat was fuer sich. Wie jedes Jahr ist natuerlich der G-1 Climax auch dieses Jahr einer der Highlights fuer mich wenn nicht das Highlight, und ich denke mindestens 1-2 Match of the Year Kandidaten kann man auf jedenfall erwarten.

Zu Block A. Das Barnett dieses Jahr teilnimmt ist eine positive ueberraschung, hatte mir ihn schon letztes Jahr gewuenscht. Finde die Konstelation im Block ziemlich gut. Chono und Tenzan sind Favoriten, denke aber das einer von ihnen auf jedenfall nicht weiterkommen wird, denke es wird Chono sein. Denn freien Spot in runde 2 bekommt entweder Nagata oder Barnett.

Zu Block B. Tanahashi und Nakamura in einem Block, auf jedenfall ein Highlight, freu mich schon auf das Match. Die grosse unbekannte ist noch X. Vielleicht wird es ja wieder Kanemoto (als Jr) oder auch Takayama ein Jahr nach seiner schweren Verletzung, wobei da ich mir nicht sicher bin ob er schon wieder Fit ist. Denke aber das Tanahashi und Nakamura in die zweite Runde kommen.

Ich denke der Sieger wird dieses Jahr entweder Tanahashi oder Nakamura heissen, also aus dem Block B kommen. Denke das endlich mal ein 5th Generation Wrestler dran ist.

I promised on Thursday that I would post more details regarding the New Japan cancellation of Josh Barnett in the G-1 tournament. Here is the story.

Josh Barnett had been told to prepare for the G-1 tournament in advance. He trained for the tournament. He suffered a staph infection and recovered. His training went well for the most part. He was excited to appear for the tournament. His shoulder injury healed up very well and therapy sessions produced good results.

Josh Barnett, since being under contract to New Japan, has had a history of not being called or told directly by management about decisions regarding his career. Last year, I broke the story about a news conference last August in which PRIDE boss Nobuyuki Sakakibara floated Barnett's name for fighting in PRIDE in October 2004. Nobody called Josh Barnett to tell him that he was going to work in PRIDE. He found that out from this web page.

On Thursday, news came of Josh Barnett being cancelled by New Japan in the G-1 tournament and replaced by Toshiaki Kawada. The reason given for Barnett's cancellation was his shoulder injury.

The truth is that Josh Barnett's shoulder injury is healed up. The truth is that Josh Barnett was scheduled to go to Japan and was told be be ready to go to Japan. He was supposed to get travel itinerary, the proper paperwork, and a plane ticket. He didn't receive anything from New Japan management this week.

Josh Barnett found out about Toshiaki Kawada taking his place from Japanese fighter Akira Shoji. Shoji thought that Kawada being in Block A would mean that Barnett would be able to face him. Josh realized what was going on. He later listened to a voicemail message that I had left him, telling him of New Japan's cancellation and Kawada replacing him.

To this moment, Josh Barnett has not received one word from New Japan management regarding the G-1 cancellation or his future status with the company. He found out about the news like everyone else does reading the Internet.

An official statement from Barnett is expected to be released in the next day or two. Barnett will make his future intentions very clear and is considering immediate plans for his future. Once the statement is issued, we will link or post it on the web page. I will also make sure that it is addressed to the Japanese press in Japanese (language). More details regarding the situation between New Japan and Josh Barnett will be made public later today on this web site with our new PPH 54 radio show, including words from Josh Barnett himself. However, his appearance will be coming with a unique twist
