Mike Ribeiro war am 30 September 2006 von den Montreal Canadians, zu den Dallas Stars getraded, nun tritt Ribeiro nach, und glaubt das er Unfair in Montreal behandelt wurde:“I don't think I played badly in Montreal. I don't know what people expected. Fifty-one points isn't the worst year a player could have. With all I did, it was never good enough. I was probably not interested in the gym and working out as much as they would have liked. But the bottom line is that when I played, I tried my hardest and tried to help the team win. I think I was treated unfairly in Montreal. They just wanted to get rid of me, and they did it. They probably had their reasons.”
Ribeiro glaubt wie viele Quebecer, das es in Montreal einen Double Standart gibt fuer Spieler die aus Quebec kommen, und Spieler die aus anderen teilen des Landes kommen:”They're always going to be hard on the French guys. They love you if you have talent. Guys like Steve Begin and Mathieu Dandenault, they love them because they work hard and do their job. But for a guy who creates and scores, it's harder, and sometimes you're not going to produce. They're hard on you and quicker to get rid of you. People are too quick to judge you ... to trade you and demand changes.”
Ganz unschuldig ist Mike Ribeiro allerdings nicht, er galt als Troublemaker im Montreal Locker Room, und auch seine Work Ethic und Disziplin lies oft zu wuenschen uebrig. Als Ribeiro im July 2006 einen Vertrag ueber ein Jahr und $1,9 Millionen unterschrieb bei den Habs, da beschwaerten sich viele Fans und sprachen sich fuer einen Trade aus. Denn bekamen sie auch, und in Dallas hat Ribeiro bisher in 65 Spielen, 10 Tore und 33 Assists in dieser Season erzielt.
